Description: Mennonite Church Canada is a successor denomination of the Conference of Mennonites in Canada, and the bi-national denominations (USA and Canada) of the General Conference Mennonite Church and the Mennonite Church. These groups merged in the late 1990's to become Mennonite Church Canada.

The first Mennonites came to Canada in 1786, moving from Pennsylvania in Conestoga wagons. Over the next 150 years, more arrived by ship from Europe, in at least four successive waves.

Its members hold to traditional Christian beliefs, believer's baptism and congregational polity. They emphasize practical Christianity, opposition to war, service to others and personal ethics.

Some people who have joined the Canadian Mennonite body in recent years have arrived from Asia, from Africa, or from Latin and South America. Native brothers and sisters, whose people were here long before the first conastoga wagons arrived, have added their voices to the mix.

Meanwhile, French-speaking and English-speaking Canadians from the wider community have enriched the Mennonite people. Together we are Christian believers moving into the future under the umbrella of the Mennonite Church Canada. Today we worship in 14 different languages across Canada.

Mennonite Church Canada is affiliated with Mennonite Church USA whose offices are at Newton, Kansas and Elkhart, Indiana. (See, Mennonite Church USA description in the section "Religious Bodies in the United States")
