Serbian Orthodox Church is an organic part of the Christian Orthodox Church. As a local church it received its autocephaly from Constantinople in 1219 A.D.
In 1921, a Serbian Orthodox Diocese in the United States of America and Canada was organized. The Serbian Orthodox Church in the USA and Canada received its administrative autonomy in 1928 with Saint Mardarije (Uskokovic) of Libertyville as its first bishop. It remains canonically an integral part of the Serbian Orthodox Patriarchate with its see in Belgrade to this day. Serbian Orthodox Church in North and South America is comprised of five dioceses: Diocese of New Gracanica - Midwestern America, Eastern American Diocese, Western American Diocese, Canadian Diocese and Diocese of Buenos Aires and South America. Center of the Serbian Orthodox Church in North and South America remains the Saint Sava Monastery in Libertyville, IL, where the Church was founded in 1921.
Serbian Orthodox Church is in absolute doctrinal unity with all other local Orthodox Churches.
