The Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches was founded Oct. 6, 1968 by the Rev. Troy D. Perry in Los Angeles, with a particular but not exclusive outreach to the gay community. Since that time, the Fellowship has grown to include congregations throughout the world.
The simple declaration of faith of what MCC believes, as stated in our By-Laws and accepted by our General Conference is that "Christianity is the revelation of God in Jesus Christ and is the religion set forth in the scriptures. Jesus Christ is foretold in the Old Testament, presented in the New Testament, and proclaimed by the Christian Church in every age and in every land."
Founded in the interest of offering a church home to all who confess and believe, Metropolitan Community Churches moves in the mainstream of Christianity. Our faith is based on the principles outlined in the historic creeds: Apostles and Nicene.
The government of this Fellowship is vested in its tri-annual General Conference, comprised of clergy and lay church delegates, who exert the right of control in all of its affairs, subject to the provisions of its Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws. Ongoing leadership is provided by the Board of Elders and Board of Administration.
