Christadelphians

The Christadelphians are a body of people who believe the Bible to be the divinely inspired word of God, written by "Holy men who spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit" (2 Pet. 1:21). They believe that the Old Testament presents God's plan to establish His Kingdom on earth in accord with the promises He made to Abraham and David; and that the New Testament declares how that plan works out in Jesus Christ, who died a sacrificial death to redeem sinners. They believe in the personal return of Jesus Christ as King, to establish "all that God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old" (Acts 3:21). They believe that at Christ's return many of the dead will be raised by the power of God to be judged. Those whom God deems worthy will be welcomed into eternal life in the Kingdom on earth. Christadelphians believe in the mortality of man; in spiritual rebirth requiring belief and immersion in the name of Jesus; and in a godly walk in this life. They have no ordained clergy, and are organized in a loose worldwide confederation of autonomous congregations (ecclesias) in approximately 100 countries. They are conscientiously opposed to participation in war. They endeavor to be enthusiastic in work, loyal in marriage, generous in giving, dedicated in preaching, and cheerful in living.
The denomination was organized in 1844 by Dr. John Thomas, who came to the United States from England, and who devoted his life to a search for the truth of God from the Bible. Dr. Thomas claimed no special revelation or position. Although his Bible scholarship is highly respected, he is not revered as a prophet in any way. The name Christadelphian ("Brethren in Christ") was adopted in 1864. Initially limited mostly to English-speaking countries, the denomination now exists worldwide.
Primary activities in North America include Sunday worship and Sunday Schools, midweek Bible classes, Bible Schools, and inter-ecclesial gatherings. In addition, the Williamsburg Christadelphian Foundation (WCF) sponsors and assists charitable and preaching activities in many parts of the world, both by itself and in conjunction with the outreach work of the Christadelphian Bible Missions.
